Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

8 small flour or corn tortillas

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 cup diced tomatoes

1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or American)

1/2 cup diced onions

1/2 cup pickles, sliced

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1 tbsp mustard

1 tbsp ketchup

Optional: jalapeños or hot sauce for extra spice

Instructions

Prepare the Beef Mixture: In a bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix them lightly without overworking the meat.

Preheat the Cooking Surface: Heat a cast-iron skillet or a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.

Cook the Patties: Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions (4 oz each). Form each portion loosely into a ball. When the skillet is hot, add the beef balls to the pan and smash them down with a spatula to form patties about 1/4 inch thick. Cook for about 3 minutes without touching them to achieve a nice crust.

Flip the Patties: After 3 minutes, flip the smashed burgers and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Add a slice of cheese on top of each burger during the last minute of cooking so it can melt.

Warm the Tortillas: While the burgers are cooking, warm the tortillas in a separate skillet for about 30 seconds on each side, or until pliable.

Assemble the Tacos: Once the burgers are done, remove them from the skillet. Place each patty on a tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, onions, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup.

Serve: Serve the smash burger tacos immediately while they're warm. Add jalapeños or hot sauce for extra kick, if desired.
