Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)

2 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons salt

¼ cup olive oil (plus extra for brushing)

6 cloves garlic, minced

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

¼ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Grated Parmesan cheese for garnishing (optional)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Make the Dough: Add the olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add minced garlic, finely chopped parsley, and red pepper flakes. Stir until fragrant (about 2-3 minutes) and then set aside.

Shape the Knots: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 8 inches long, then tie it into a knot and tuck the ends underneath.

Second Rise: Place the knots on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover them with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Bake the Knots: Brush the tops of the knots with some of the garlic butter mixture and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Finish with Garlic Butter: Remove from the oven and immediately brush the knots with the remaining garlic butter mixture. If desired, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.

Serve: Let cool slightly, then serve warm and enjoy!
