Ingredients

1 (12-count) package of sweet Hawaiian rolls

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 cup crushed pineapple (drained)

1/2 cup shredded coconut (sweetened or unsweetened)

1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Powdered sugar for serving

Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Prepare the Rolls: Cut the sweet Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally and arrange them in the prepared baking dish, cut side up. You can slightly overlap them if needed.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Add the Fillings: Gently fold in the crushed pineapple, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts if using, ensuring they are evenly distributed.

Combine: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the Hawaiian rolls, making sure every piece is soaked. Press down gently with a spatula to help the liquid absorb into the bread.

Let it Rest: Cover the baking dish with foil and let it sit for about 20-30 minutes to allow the rolls to absorb the custard, or refrigerate it overnight for a more robust flavor.

Bake: After resting, remove the foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

Serve: Allow the bake to cool slightly before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
